Brewers Top Pirates 7-3

Claudio Vargas struck out a career-high eleven batters over six innings and Bill Hall drove in three runs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-to-3 tonight at Miller Park.

Vargas worked in and out of trouble all night, highlighted by a 28-pitch fourth inning that ended with him striking out the side. While Hall provided the biggest sparks on offense, he also continued to struggle in center field, committing his fourth error this season.

Vargas wasn't fazed and finished his evening with two strikeouts to end the sixth.

Hall had a two-run homer during a three-run Milwaukee rally in the first inning. Jason Bay hit a solo homer for the Pirates in the second inning.

Pittsburgh loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth, but Vargas struck out the next three batters to get out of the inning.

After the Pirates cut the lead to 3-to-2 in the fifth, the Brewers pulled ahead 5-to-2 in the sixth with the help of an R-B-I double by Hall.
