Express Sign Two In-State Baseball Players

UW-Parkside sophomore left-handed pitcher Andy Yushta and UW-Milwaukee junior outfielder Nick Wichser have both committed to play this summer for the Express, it was announced today by Field Manager and Director of Operations Dale Varsho.

Yushta, a native of La Crosse, is 2-2 this season with a 2.67 ERA for the Rangers. He has stroke out 32 batters in 33.2 innings pitched. Teams are hitting just .154 off of him. Yushta started 31 of the 42 games as a centerfielder for the Rangers in 2006. He was a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts last season.

Yushta attended Pittsville High School where he was a first team all-state and all-district selection. He was also a first team all-conference selection in football as a receiver and a punter his senior season.

Wichser, a native of Waukesha, has started all 25 games for the Panthers this season. He leads the team with 14 runs scored and has one home run and eight RBIs this year He had to take a medical red shirt last season for the Panthers, but he appeared in 42 games, including 41 starts, in 2005. He hit .262 with four home runs and 21 RBIs. He also was 6-for-7 in steal attempts. In his freshman season, Wichser drove in 13 RBIs in 29 games played.

Wichser attended Waukesha West High School where he was a three-sport standout. In baseball be received first team all-state accolades and was named conference player of the year in 2002 and 2003. He was also an honorable mention all-state quarterback.
