Wisconsin running back John Clay was named the Big Ten Conference's Offensive Player of the Year Monday night, while linebacker Chris Borland was selected as the conference's Freshman of the Year.

Clay becomes the third tailback in Wisconsin history to receive the conference's top offensive honor, as he joins former Badger running backs Brent Moss in 1993 and Ron Dayne in 1999 as recipients of the award. The sophomore from Racine, Wis., leads the Big Ten with 1,224 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns, and he ranks 16 in the nation with an average of 111.3 yards on the ground per game.

Borland is the first Wisconsin defensive player to be named the conference's top freshman and becomes the sixth overall Badger to win the award. The Ohio native is second in the Big Ten and tied for fifth in the nation with five forced fumbles. Borland also has 51 tackles, three sacks, three fumble recoveries and an interception this season.

Rounding out the Badgers Big Ten honorees were first-team all-conference linemen selections O'Brien Schofield and John Moffitt. Badger tight end Garret Graham, tackle Gabe Carimi and safety Jay Valai all took home second-team honors.
