Thursday, the long-time coach decided it was time to step down from his post as head coach of the Old Abes. It is the second time Kasmarek has bid adieu to the Abes program.
A UW-Stevens Point graduate and a Dick Bennett Disciple, Kasmarek took over the head coaching job at Memorial in 1992 and guided the team for seven years before resigning in 1999. He then accepted the position for the second time in 2004.
With a record of 122-101, Kasmarek ranks fifth in Old Abes history for number of wins. This season he guided Memorial to a 14-9 mark and a trip to the sectional semifinals. Kasmarek says his reason for resigning is quite simple, it's time.
Kasmarek does plan to stay involved in the program through basketball camps this summer. Plus, he will continue to teach history and philosophy at Memorial.
