Twins Slip Past Red Sox 2-1

Johan Santana picked up the victory in a rare five-inning outing and the Minnesota Twins hung on to beat the Boston Red Sox 2-to-1.

Jason Bartlett's infield single in a two-run second inning was enough to beat Julian Tavarez, who outpitched the two-time A-L Cy Young Award winner and turned in his best start this year. Tavarez fell to 1-and-3. Santana is 4-and-2.

Joe Nathan got the last four outs for his eighth save. Center fielder Torii Hunter ran his hitting streak to 20 games, longest streak in the majors.
