Harlan will take over for Steve Terry on June 15. Terry is returning to a teaching position at UW-Stout.
Harlan has been at UW-Stout since August 2000. He previously taught and coached at Clark College in Washington state, and served as the Clark interim athletic director during the 1998-99 school year.
“I am very pleased that Joe has accepted this assignment,” Sorensen said in announcing the appointment. “Joe enjoys a tremendous amount of respect within our athletic department. I am convinced he has the leadership ability this department needs at this time.”
“Joe also has shown to possess a tremendous amount of organizational skill and an unmatched work ethic,” Sorensen added. “Our athletic department will be in good hands.”
“UW-Stout athletics has done great things in the past,” Harlan, 38, said. “I will come in and do my very best to promote UW-Stout athletics and make sure all programs thrive in the future.”
