Blugold Women All-Sport Honorees

The women’s award is the seventh in school history and the first since 2003. The Blugolds also won the women’s award in 2000, 1998, 1997, 1995 and 1994.

The award is calculated using the Blugolds’ top seven finishes which included conference championships in golf, soccer and volleyball plus seconds in cross country and tennis. Points are awarded in each sport based on the number of schools that sponsor the sport and the finish of each team. Thus, in volleyball, where all nine teams sponsor the sport, the champion is awarded nine points, second eight points, third seven points, etc.; but in gymnastics, where only five teams sponsor the sport, the champion is awarded five points, second four points, etc. Only the number of sports are included as the institution that has the fewest number of sponsored sports. With indoor and outdoor track, only the highest of the two finishes is included.

The Blugolds totaled 53.5 points to edge defending champion UW-Oshkosh which finished with 51.5. UW-La Crosse, which won five league titles in 2006-07, was third with 45 points.

In the men’s competition, the Blugolds finished sixth. Only the top five finishes are included on the men’s side. La Crosse was the team champion with 38.5 points followed by Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point.

Overall, combining both men’s and women’s competition, Oshkosh won the title with La Crosse second and Eau Claire third.
