Forty minutes was not enough to decide a winner in the back-and-forth battle between UW-Stout and Mt. Mercy College, as the Mustangs took one overtime period to down the Blue Devils, 87-84, Sunday evening at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Senior Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Anoka, Minn.) hit a free throw with 18 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the game at 72. In overtime, there were eight lead changes before Mt. Mercy's (8-2) Jake Carey hit two free throws to give his team a three-point lead with five seconds remaining. A desparation heave by Jerrod Buchholtz (Jr, Durand) came up unsuccessful at the buzzer.

The largest lead either team had was a nine point Stout (3-2) lead ten minutes into the game, and there were 11 ties throughout the contest.

The Mustangs' James Henderson led all players with 24 points, followed by Stout's Mahlon Thomas (Jr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.), who scored 18. Senior Grant Franzen (Waverly, Iowa) led all players in rebounds for the second straight night, as he pulled down 11 boards.

UW-Stout will return to action, Wednesday, Dec. 2, when they travel to open the WIAC season at UW-Stevens Point.
