An upstart Rice Lake boys basketball team would push Eau Claire North into overtime, but the Huskies had enough energy saved up for the extra session, as they beat the Warriors, 56-47, in their Big Rivers opener. Elsewhere in the conference, Eau Claire Memorial, Chippewa Falls, and Hudson also posted wins. In the Cloverbelt Conference, Eau Claire Regis shook off a bit of early rust to beat Chippewa Falls McDonell, while Osseo-Fairchild picked up a road win over Altoona.
