Bugold women blank Marian, 9-0
The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team recorded its second shutout of the season with a 9-0 victory over Marian University at Hobbs Ice Center tonight.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team recorded its second shutout of the season with a 9-0 victory over Marian University at Hobbs Ice Center tonight.

The nine goals ties for fourth on the Blugolds' all-time list for most goals in a game. The record is 12, which occurred on Feb. 2, 2005 against Hamline University.

Eau Claire improves to 5-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). Marian, which is in its inaugural hockey season, drops to 1-5-0 on the year and 1-2-0 in the NCHA.

The Blugolds scored four goals in the first, three in the second and two in the third. Eau Claire came out strong in each of the periods and scored less than 34 seconds into each period.

Beth Dittrich (Sr.-Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) opened the game with a goal at 11 seconds, her fourth of the year. Kristin Faber (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) was credited with the assist on the eventual game-winner.

In the second, Faber found the back of the net just 15 seconds in, with an assist from Kelli Johnson (Jr.-Farmington, Minn.). Faber once again found an early goal in the third as she scored just 33 seconds into the period on an assist from Dittrich.

In addition to Faber, Casey McMullen (Fr.-Minneapolis, Minn./South) also recorded two goals in the contest, one in the first and one in the third.

The Blugolds gave the Marian defense a workout as the peppered the goal with 57 shots, the second most in school history. The record is 59, which came against Finlandia University on January 12, 2008. Marian finished with just seven shots-on-goal.

The two teams played a clean game, with Marian committing just on penalty while the Blugolds had three.

Danika Porter (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) picked up the win for the Blugolds between the pipes, and improves to 2-2-1 on the season. She saved seven shots tonight. Melissa Carter took the loss for Marian and drops to 1-3-0, despite playing less than 14 minutes.

The Blugolds will try and complete the sweep of Marian tomorrow night when they host the Sabres at Hobbs Ice Center. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
