Carlos Delgado homered and Maine limited Minnesota to four hits over seven-and-a-third innings as the National League East leaders won for only the fourth time in 16 games this month. Maine had gone 1-and-4 with two no-decisions since winning five of his first six starts.
Delgado gave New York the lead with his eleventh homer off Twins starter Carlos Silva in the second. Paul Lo Duca hit a two-run single off Silva in the sixth to make it 4-to-nothing, and the Mets broke it open in the eighth.
The Twins got their only run when Michael Cuddyer drove in pinch-hitter Jason Tyner in the eighth.
