Express Winning Streak Ends In Waterloo

The Eau Claire Express could only manage two hits tonight as the Waterloo Bucks ended the Express’ winning streak at three with a 7-0 win at Riverfront Stadium.

The loss gives the Express a record of 9-10 this season. Eau Claire is now 4-2 in its seven-game road trip. Waterloo improves to 8-11. The Bucks are 2-1 against the Express this season.

The Express had a chance to get up on the Bucks early on. Eau Claire had runners at second and third in the first inning, but could not get a runner across. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Michael Giller hit a groundball that took a funny hop to allow Bryn Henderson to score. The Bucks followed that with three consecutive RBI singles to take a 4-0 lead.

Waterloo extended its lead in the bottom of the seventh after a Brett Milleville two-RBI single made the score 7-0. The Bucks added one more run in the eighth to make the final score 7-0 in favor of the Waterloo Bucks.

This is the fourth time this season that the Express have been shutout. Jon Ganzen (Bellevue) (1-2) picked up the loss for the Express. Josh Rickards earned the win for the Bucks. The only two hits of the game by Eau Claire came from Bryan Frew (Nebraska-Omaha) and new Express member Jacob Jefferies (UC-Davis).

Eau Claire and Waterloo will play the second game of a two-game series tomorrow night at Riverfront Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
