Following a dramatic win last night, the Eau Claire Express could not produce any runs tonight as they fell to the Green Bay Bullfrogs by a final score of 4-0 at Carson Park.
The loss drops the Express to a record of 14-16. The Bullfrogs improve to a 23-7 record. This is the fifth time this season that the Express have been shutout.
Green Bay got things going in the top of the second. Mike Notaro led off with a bloop single down the left field line. Two batters later Dillon Bell reached on an Express error to put runners at the corners. An RBI groundout by Kurt Yacko made the score 1-0. Boe Baitinger then doubled to left field to drive in Bell to make the score 2-0 Bullfrogs.
The best scoring opportunity for the Express came in the third inning when with Bryce Nimmo (Nebraska) at second, Bryan Frew (Nebraska-Omaha) hit a single to center, but Nimmo would be thrown out at the plate on a perfect throw by the centerfielder.
Notaro extended the Green Bay lead to 3-0 in the sixth with a leadoff home run to right field. Eau Claire got runners at the corners with nobody out in the sixth, but could not drive anybody in. Green Bay added one more insurance run in the ninth to defeat the Express 4-0.
Shane Dyer (New Mexico) (2-3) picked up the loss for Eau Claire. Chris Krepline (4-1) earned the win for the Bullfrogs. Bryan Frew continues to hit the ball well as he went 3-for-5 tonight.
The Express will host the Wisconsin Woodchucks tomorrow night in the first game of a home-and-home series. Tomorrow’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
