Cuddyer was hurt Wednesday night against Detroit when the right fielder made a hard slide into second base. He was scratched from yesterday's game against the Tigers.
After the game, Manager Ron Gardenhire said Cuddyer's thumb was swollen and black and blue, but not broken. He said he was waiting for the results of an M-R-I of the thumb.
The Twins called up Darnell McDonald from Triple-A Rochester to replace Cuddyer. In 22 games with the Red Wings, McDonald was batting .282 with two home runs.
