After Packers coach Mike McCarthy hinted Friday afternoon that a deal was close, a report by ESPN Milwaukee says that veteran right tackle Mark Tauscher has signed a new two year deal with the Packers.
McCarthy spoke to reporters Friday at Packers Fan Fest and said that Tauscher had been traveling out of the country, but that he was expected back this week. Though the Packers have not made an official announcement (as of Sunday morning) McCarthy was optimistic about signing Tauscher two days ago after having already signed left tackle Chad Clifton. Safety Nick Collins and nose tackle Ryan Pickett also got new deals on Friday.
Tauscher has been a reliable lineman for the Packers for a decade. The 10-year veteran out of Wisconsin re-joined the Packers in the middle of the 2009 season and started eight games. It was an impressive comeback from a serious injury in 2008 where he tore his ACL in Week 14. The rehabilitation was lengthy and Tauscher had been replaced for a time by Allen Barbre.
