Bonds Breaks Aaron's HR Record, Smacks #756 in San Francisco

The chase is over.

Barry Bonds is the major league's all-time home run king after smacking his 756th in the 5th inning of Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals. The San Francisco Giants outfielder doubled and singled in his first two at-bats before passing Hank Aaron for number-1 on the career list.

Nationals starting pitcher Mike Bacsik (BA'-sihk) served up the historic homer, which went an estimated 435 feet to right-center. The blast gave the Giants a 5-4 lead.

Bonds thanked his teammates for their support and also thanked his family. He became emotional when mentioning his father, former Giant Bobby Bonds.

Bonds was joined by his godfather, Willie Mays, during the brief ceremony following the home run. Mays is 4th on the all-time list with 660 home runs.

Bonds took his usual spot in left field after the inning but was taken out of the game before the top of the 6th.
