The Eau Claire Express defeated the Alexandria Beetles 6-5 in 10 innings to extend their lead over the Madison Mallards to a half-game in the South Division of the Northwoods League.
The Express led 5-0 early in the game but led the lead slip away as the Beetles came back to force extra innings.
Eau Claire's win in extra innings was especially important because the second-place Madison Mallards lost to Duluth 6-5. The loss snapped the Mallards 16-game winning streak and extended the Express' lead in the South Division to half-game heading into this weekend's series between the two teams in Madison. For Eau Claire to clinch the division, the Express need to win just one of two games against the Mallards to move on to the playoffs.
