For the second night in a row, the St. Cloud River Bats jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally by the Eau Claire Express en route to a 6-3 victory Friday night at Carson Park to win the Northwoods League Championship.

A crowd of over 2,200 people watched St. Cloud take the early lead on Express starter Tim Huber. The River Bats struck in the 1st on an RBI base hit by Tim Wheeler and tacked on two more runs in the 2nd on a long homer by DJ Belfonte.

Eau Claire trailed 6-0 at one point, but got on the board in the 6th thanks to a base hit from Jake Jefferies that plated Bryan Frew. The Express scored two more runs in the 8th inning, but went 1-2-3 in the 9th as The River Bats clinched the title on Eau Claire's home field.
