Wisconsin sophomore tailback Lance Smith has been suspended for the Badgers' five regular-season road games this season, UW officials announced today.
The announcement was made by athletic director Barry Alvarez and dean of students Lori Berquam.
Smith, who rushed 11 times or 60 yards in the opener last week, will miss games Saturday against Nevada-Las Vegas, Oct. 6 against Illinois, Oct. 13 against Penn State, Nov. 3 against Ohio State and Nov. 17 against Minnesota.
The action, according to UW officials, is the result of a non-academic misconduct case pending against Smith for a July incident. Smith was suspended from the team on July 18 for violating the athletic department's student athlete discipline policy.
The 19-year-old sophomore from Warren, Ohio, faces charges of battery and disorderly conduct for his alleged actions during a fight with his girlfriend.
