Eau Claire North graduate Sam Hurt excelled for the Huskies on the football field and the basketball court but baseball is his true love.
"I love how it's an outdoor sport. In the summer you get the nice weather," says Sam. "And then just being with all the teammates. I just found the passion for it over football and basketball."
"Growing up playing three sports with him, it's really been an honor playing with him," says teammate Adam Faanes. "He makes everyone better on the team, through his leadership and how he plays the game."
Sam is predominately a shortstop but has also proven himself as a closer on the Pizza Hut Legion team.
"I feel like I've really grown as a player, from playing multiple positions. You get a different perspective on the game itself," says Sam.
"We know when he comes in on the mound in the 7th or 9th inning, we have confidence for him to shut the game down for us and pecker up for the win," adds Faanes.
Already a Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-State player, Sam was just named an American Legion All-Star and will play at Miller Park on August 18th...Sam's hard work has paid off.
"Making the most of all your opportunities, whether it's during the game or in the cage. Or just taking batting practice, just really stressing do what you try to do in a game," comments Sam.
And Sam isn't done yet, he will play for one of the top Division 2 schools in the country next year at Madison College.
"He's got the talent to play there," says Legion coach Mark Faanes. "He's got the arm, he's got the speed, he's got the bat. Sam's gonna do just great."
"I'm just so excited for the competition, I just can't wait to see what the next level has to bring for talent wise," says Sam.
