NEW INFORMATION: Former UW-Eau Claire head football coach charged in child porn investigation

(WEAU) - A former UW-Eau Claire head football coach is now charged in a child pornography investigation.

A criminal complaint accuses Todd Hoffner of having videos of a boy and 2-girls dancing nude on his university-issued cell phone.

Some news organizations have decided to reveal who the children are. WEAU 13 News has decided, at least for now, not to reveal this information to protect the minors involved.

Detectives say that when Hoffner turned his phone into the university because it wasn't working.

Hoffner got a new phone.

But an IT supervisor later found the videos on his old phone, and reported it to his supervisor.

Hoffner is currently head football coach at Minnesota State Mankato.

He was head football coach at UW-Eau Claire from 1999 to 2005.

Hoffner was escorted off the football practice field on Friday.

A spokesman at Minnesota state Mankato, says Hoffner is still on administrative leave but declined to comment further.

Mankato, Minn. – Earlier today, the Blue Earth County Sheriff announced that Minnesota State University, Mankato head football coach Todd Hoffner is facing possible criminal charges. Questions regarding any law enforcement actions should be referred to the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department.

Hoffner has been on leave from his coaching position since Friday, August 17, 2012. A university investigation against Mr. Hoffner is pending. The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act prohibits the University from disclosing further information concerning the pending matter.

The University’s top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of its students, program participants, and the community. The University is not aware of any allegations affecting university students or program participants.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system.

MANKATO, Minn. (WEAU) - A former UW-Eau Claire head football coach is in jail in the midst of a child pornography investigation.

Todd Hoffner, who is now head football coach at Minnesota State University-Mankato, was booked in the Blue Earth County Jail in Minnesota on Use of Minors in Sexual Performance/Pornographic Work at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday. He has not been charged.

A school spokesman says Hoffner has been placed on leave. Authorities were at Hoffner's Eagle Lake home on Tuesday.

Hoffner was head football coach at UW-Eau Claire from 1999-2005. He led the Blugolds to a record of 42-28. That winning percentage of 60% is second highest in program history. Hoffner only had one losing season at UW-Eau Claire. In 2006, he left to become offensive coordinator at South Dakota.
