MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A winter slide has dropped Wisconsin out of the Top 25 for the first time this year.
After peaking at No. 3 in the poll, the Badgers (17-5, 4-5 Big Ten) have lost five of six following a school-record 16-0 start. They're hoping a turnaround starts Tuesday with a visit to Illinois.
Defense was the bigger problem earlier during the tough stretch. Now, offense seems to be the notable issue.
Wisconsin was rolling earlier this season with a balanced attack making up for any uncharacteristic defensive shortcomings.
Interior defense has been inconsistent. Leading scorer Sam Dekker and point guard Traevon Jackson are each struggling with their shots of late.
No one is pointing fingers on the team-first Badgers. Jackson says they need to play better and have fun again
