The Wisconsin men's hockey team, ranked 4th in the pre-season polls, spent Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire. The Badgers holding their Red-White scrimmage in front of more than a thousand fans at Hobbs Ice Center. All proceeds from the event going to support the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey program.

(Highlights from the scrimmage)
Coach Mike Eaves team practiced for a half-hour getting used to the rink at Hobbs before they began their scrimmage. The format, two 20-minute periods for the scrimmage and the White would jump out to a 2-nothing lead, Tyler Barnes with the backhand goal.
But the Red squad comes back, the Eau Claire connection, Jefferson Dahl to Jake McCabe, back to J-D for the goal to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Red trailed 3-1 late in the final period, score to make it 3-2, and then with an extra attacker on the ice, Michael Mersch with the tying goal.
They settle the scrimmage with a shoot-out and the hometown boys do not disappoint, first, it's McCabe going top shelf for the goal, and moments later, it's Jefferson Dahl with the nifty shot and the goal. The Red team ends up winning 9-6 in the shootout.

Afterwards, Dahl, McCabe and Coach Eaves talked about playing their scrimmage in Eau Claire.
Jefferson Dahl: "This is great, you know people from Eau Claire are going to come and support the Blugolds and us and couldn't have gone better, with the crowd, the atmosphere and how we were playing, couldn't beat this day."
Adds Jake McCabe, "It was a lot of fun, we had a great turnout today. It was awesome to see. You know looking at the rink, you know the new boards, the new glass, the new paint jobs, it's like a whole new rink so it was nice enough for the Blugolds to give us their locker room. So it was just a great experience all around."
Coach Mike Eaves says he was pleased for both Dahl and McCabe,
"Lot of smiles on their faces. JD scored in the regular game and then had a nice shoot-out goal. And Jake scored so they were very much looking forward to this week."

The Badgers open their season next weekend in Madison against Northern Michigan.
