Blackhawks open season with Somerset

When the high school football season kicks off Friday night, one of the top match-ups in week one will be Bloomer hosting Somerset. The Blackhawks and Spartans have developed quite a rivalry. Somerset knocked off Bloomer in level four of the post-season last November.

The Blackhawks graduated a huge senior class and will need their underclassmen to step up in what should be a competitive Heart O' North Conference in 2012...

Coach John Post believes the experience of reaching the state semifinals last year will go a long way toward helping his younger kids adjust to football at the varsity level.

"We lost 22 seniors last year," says coach Post. "I feel like we are at the point in our program that the kids can pick up the ball. It was nice for the underclassmen to go along to see us go to level 4."

"(We've) been working on just learning the plays, fitting the new guys in," adds quarterback Travis Mullen. "We got a great group of young guys, they're learning their routes and running good."
