Blugold women get big effort from freshman Cady Roedl in win over Stout

The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team picked up a much-needed victory over Stout on Saturday that moved the Blugolds one game ahead of the Blue Devils and La Crosse for the 6th and final playoff spot in the WIAC tournament. Eau Claire got a breakthrough performance from point guard Cady Roedl who scored 18 points. Coach Tonja Englund says the freshman from Beaver Dam has a bright future in the program, "I think everyone can see she's going to be a great Blugold. And the thing that we really like about her is not only can she make those shots, she makes everybody else around her better, she had 3 or 4 of those 'Wow' passes and we didn't finish them unfortunately. She's going to be a great point guard in this league. I think everyone can tell, that's what we've been missing, when Sarah got hurt, that hurt us but not having Cady really hurt us, today we finally felt like we had everyone healthy and the group back together."
Roedl talked about the Blugolds ability to play unselfishly, "I think making the extra pass really helped, we didn't force too many shots, some games we don't take the best look and this game we really took the extra pass, found the open player and knocked down the open shots."
