Blugolds goaltender Brandon Stephenson on the brink of making history

After two big victories over St. Norbert and Stevens Point over the weekend, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team has moved up to 4th in this week's NCAA Division 3 national rankings. Much of the credit can go to Blugolds' senior goalie Brandon Stephenson who made 61 saves in those two wins including stopping all 40 in last Friday night's victory over St. Norbert. It was just the second time in history that the Blugolds shutout the Green Knights. Saturdays' win over the Pointers was Stephenson's 40th career win, tyring for first in school history for most wins with Tom Johnson. It was also his 14th win of the season, one behind the school record for most victories in a season.
Stephenson talked about his shutout over St. Norbert, "As a team, especially defensively I thought we did a really good job of limiting their chances. You know they had a lot of shots, but they weren't the quality scoring shots that they normally get. We did a good job of just shutting them down on both ends of the ice. The forty shots didn't seem like that many but after looking back on it, it was a good night."
Blugolds Defenseman David Donnellan praised Stephenson for his leadership between the pipes, "Brando's been absolutely the wall back there for us this year and we've been confident in him and try to eliminate shots for him. He faced 40 shots the other night and did an outstanding job for us."
