Blugolds hoops prepare for Superior

It has been a season of streaks for the Blugolds men's basketball team. They have had two winning streaks of three games and then have also had losing streaks of four and three games.

The Blugolds are currently in the midst of a three game losing streak which has pushed their record back to 9-9 overall and 3-6 in conference play. Tomorrow Eau Claire makes the trip north to Superior, a team they lost to 75-53 to in early December, but hope to keep their winning streak rolling against the Yellow Jackets.

"Our attitudes changed a little bit. I think we got some confidence, going into this basketball game. We found a formula for success, we've been able to win three conference games. We're just hoping that can continue Wednesday night," says head coach Matt Siverling.

"Big thing for us is we've really done a good job on the offensive end of the floor, working to great shots," adds Siverling. "Shooting percentage has gone up. We've been able to score some points and then defensively we've been able to hold teams down and that;s been a formula for success for us."

Meanwhile the Blugold women are coming off a tough loss to La Crosse and are also 9-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Blugolds currently sit in the 5the spot in conference play and need to maintain that as the top 6 teams make the WIAC tournament..
The drive to make the tournament begins tomorrow when they host Superior.

"I think the interesting thing about the conference this year is that everybody is really good at home and the road's been difficult for everyone," says head coach Tonja Englund. "And so this game against Superior is very interesting because Superior has had key wins at home. They haven't had to travel as much and so we really feel like beyond losing to Point at home, we've won at home, we've played well at home. A lot of it has to do with our crowd. A lot of it has to do with my younger players are comfortable and they love Zorn Arena. And so we have to get better on the road, but our focus right now is win these two big games at home this week."
