Brewers unveil statue of Uecker Friday

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers are honoring broadcaster Bob Uecker.

They are unveiling a bronze statue of the Hall of Famer on Friday outside Miller Park during a ceremony for friends, family and dignitaries.

It's over seven feet tall, not including the base. It will join statues of Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and baseball commissioner Bud Selig.

Bob Costas, broadcaster with NBC Sports and the MLB Network, will be emcee.

The 77-year-old Uecker became a household name as a comedic actor who often made fun of his career as a light-hitting catcher. He's been in the Brewers' radio booth since 1971.

Uecker played six seasons in the big leagues, winning a World Series championship with St. Louis in 1964.
