The WIAA football post-season will resume this weekend with Level 3 action. In Division 5, the Durand Panthers will make the long trip to the southwest part of the state to take on Lancaster. The Panthers advanced to Level 3 with a dramatic win over La Crosse Aquinas last Friday night. For unbeaten Durand, it's been a dream season for the players, coaches, and the entire community.
Next up, the Flying Arrows, a team that is also undefeated and were state runner-up a year ago in D5. Panthers coach Rod Rosemeyer says the focus for his team this week, slowing down Lancaster's potent ground game.
Rod Rosemeyer says, "Lancaster has a lot of speed and they are going to run the option so we have to be very disciplined on defense, stay on our assignments. And we have to get caught up with the speed of the game in a hurry, our scout team won't be able to duplicate what they do so us adapting to the speed of the game is going to be a big issue."
Durand senior quarterback Jake Weber says, "I'm excited, you don't get to play in a game like this very often and some kids are already done but we're still playing so we have to take advantage of it."
