Eau Claire baseball inducts two new members into their Hall of Fame

Eau Claire baseball inducted two new members into their Hall of Fame tonight, the 2011 Eau Claire North and 2002 Eau Claire Regis championship baseball teams.

Those attending this evening's festivities at the Florian Gardens got a chance to hear from guest speaker, Lee Smith who pitched for the Cubs and Cardinals during his Major League career. Smith is 3rd on MLB's all-time save list with 478.

"It's really great to see the kids playing baseball, remembering their championships,"says Smith. "I went by the stadium earlier today and saw the Hank Aaron statue. So nice to get back to small town where I think major league baseball came from. You think about all the major cities and stuff like that, small town like Eau Claire is like the town I came from. Small town baseball, man is a good thing, to give back and really give back to the community."

A special plaque remembering the North and Regis baseball teams will be displayed permanently outside Carson Park. There were also some great silent auction items from other Cub greats including hall of famers Ryne Sandberg and Fergie Jenkins.
