Engler Leads Women's Golf in Home and Season Opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Kate Engler (So.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner) led the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team to a fourth place finish out of 20 teams at the two-day Doug Georgianni Memorial Invitational at Mill Run and Wild Ridge Golf Courses to start the new season.

Engler tied for the low score of 155 with Washington University-St. Louis' Olivia Lugar, who claimed medalist honors because of shooting a lower score on the second day. Engler shot 76 on day one and 79 on day two while Lugar shot 77 on day one and 78 on day two.

Catherine Wagner (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) also finished in the top 10 for the Blugolds, taking ninth overall with 163 strokes. A total of 110 golfers competed in this year's event.

As a team, the Blugolds claimed fourth place with 662 strokes. Washington-St. Louis won with 646 strokes while Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) was second with 648 and St. Olaf College (Minn.) was third with 658.

Next Saturday and Sunday the Blugolds will be in Iowa for the Wartburg Invitational at Centennial Oaks Golf Club.
