The Eau Claire Memorial boys hockey team punched their ticket to the WIAA state tournament for the fourth straight year with a 5-2 victory over RMB in last Friday's sectional championship. It's the Old Abes 13th trip to Madison overall and they are going to state for the sixth time in the last seven years.
Coach Mike Schwengler's Old Abes were on the ice this afternoon at Hobbs preparing to face the Whitefish Bay Co-op. Schwengler says the four straight trips is a huge plus for his kids who know what to expect when the bright lights come on. His six seniors including Brady Bollinger believe all of that experience will serve them well.
"Experience really does help down there at state, it's a completely different ballfield, I mean the ice is soft, it's warm so experience, you can't get enough of it down there. It's just going to be a great way to end four years down there at state," says senior forward, Brady Bollinger.
"We started out the year shaky, and a lot of people doubted us, but we regouped around late December, it feels good to going down there again, be part of this four-year group, I've only part of it three, but Bollinger has been there fourth year, and he's worked so hard at it, so it's going to be fun going down there the fourth year in a row," says junior forward Jake Bresser.
"We got a lot of guys that have been down there before, won games, lost games it sure helps us a lot who haven't played down there as much as them. We look to them as our leaders. To finish as a senior, that's where I wanted to end my senior year, it's where every senior dreams of ending his career in high school," says senior forward, Cooper Campbell.
