In Chippewa Falls, the Cardinals are coming off a 5-4 2011 season, but missed out on the post-season. Coach Chuck Raykovich's team on the practice field Wednesday afternoon getting prepared for another Big Rivers season. The Cards open 2012 at home two weeks from Friday when Chi Hi hosts Holmen. Rayko says this early in camp, he wants his team to concentrate on getting better.
Chuck Raykovich says, "Our chances are as good as they are every year, chips have to fall in the right direction, we go to get some break, have to stay away from injuries and just like anybody else, our kids are like everyone else, everyone has a shot at this stage of the game, the second day of practice."
At McDonell high school, Joe Salter takes over as the head coach of the Macks, Salter is familiar with McDonell's pogram as he was the team's offensive coordinator a couple of years ago. With only 30 players out this year, the Macks coach says they need to work with they got.
Joe Salter says, "I'd like a few more kids, you live and die with small school football by numbers, obviously we're low in numbers, if we had a few more kids, it would make it easier, but we're going to work with what we got, coach them up and we'll see what happens."
