Last year the Mondovi football team went 3-3 in the Dunn St. Croix Conference and 4-6 overall. This year the team is hopeful to finish better than .500 and make the playoffs.
In order for that to happen the team needs to see improvement from its offense. With a change of system last season, the fourth year coaching staff feels the team can now move the ball better.
"Last year we struggled a few times on the line. And this is our second year running the Flex Bone and second year into it the coaches know a little more, the players know a little more, a little smoother transition," says head coach, Mike Sinz. "So if we can get some guys up front to block, we have some guys up front that can make some plays. We have some athletes outside that can make some plays. One of our strengths is our speed so we have to use that...we'll find out Friday how good we are."
With over half of last seasons starters back in their defensive line-up, the Buffaloes coaching staff expects similar success from them and with their offense settling in to the Flex Bone system, they expect things to come together.
"Defensively I think we'll be pretty solid," Sinz says. "Last year our defense was excellent, our offense didn't help them out a lot so they were very good. This year we return i think 6 starters and we have some other young kids that have really stepped up so we're looking forward to the season."
The Buffaloes open up play this Friday at home against Durand.
