Neillsville girls basketball team in search of WIAA Division 3 state title

By  |

The Neillsville girls basketball team will carry a 54-game winning streak to this weekend's WIAA state tournament in Green Bay. The Warriors, last year's Division 4 state champs move up a division this year, competing in Division 3.
The Warriors were on the practice court Mondaynoon preparing for their D3 state semifinal opponent East Troy. The Trojans were in the Division 3 semis a year ago. Neillsville coach John Gaier says his team is looking forward to the challenge of playing against the D3 field.
John Gaier says, "You know it's obviously different teams that play, than we've played in the past, but really as far as preparation and getting ready for one game at a time and playing the opponent that's in front of you. That is really always the same, so, it doesn't really matter whether we're Division 3 or Division 4, we've just got to be prepared to play the next team that is in our sights."
Junior guard Jenny Lindner agrees, "We're playing a lot more harder competition this year. Give D4 credit, they're still good, but D3 is harder, we have a lot of better teams."
