UW Stout opens up their football season this weekend at home against Jamestown College on Saturday at 1pm in Menomonie.
Last season the Blue Devils finished 5-5 including a win over Jamestown College. This year, the Blue Devils open up the season a week later than most other schools.
They hope to improve on their record, despite losing quite a few starters including three on the offensive line, two linebackers, their starting quarterback of three years, two defensive lineman and two defensive backs.
"Defense we're a little young. We lose a couple of guys that had been starting for 3 years," said Blue Devils head coach Clayt Birmingham. "We're not really young in those positions, they're juniors, but they haven't seen a lot of bullets yet. So, we're excited to just see what we've got i guess, just play and see what we've got."
"People, I bet probably have the impression that maybe the late start's gonna put us behind, but I think it's gonna do us just fine," says senior defensive lineman John Van Gundy. "Everyone's maybe kind of beat up after their first game or two, but we had a good camp. Everyone's a pretty tight knit group, so we should be ready to go."
