The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team will make only their second NCAA tournament appearance in school history Wednesday night when the Blugolds host St. John's of Minnesota in a first round tournament game. And while last Saturday's loss to St. Norbert in the NCHA Peters Cup championship still stings, the Blugolds say their excited to still be playing.
Senior Forward Andrew McCabe says, "We feel very fortunate, we're one of 11 teams left in the country and that's something to be very excited about and can be proud of, but we're definitely not satisfied and have to keep working toward our ultimate goal of going to New York and a couple of more steps to get there that are not going to be easy, and we're going to have to embrace that and work hard for it."
Adds fellow senior Isaiah Bennis, "We're still in the tournament, one of 11 teams left, it's really going to be exciting to be playing on Wednesday, for Andrew and I we talked about how as seniors this is going to be our last game ever at Hobbs so just still being able to play, that's the most exciting thing right now, we're looking forward to Wednesday, hopefully take care of business and then head over to St. Norberts."
