Vavra relieved as Twins hitting coach, reassigned within organization

After another disappointing season, the Minnesota Twins have relieved Chippewa Falls native and UW-Stout alum Joe Vavra as hitting coach and reassigned him to another position in the organization.

Vavra took over as Twins hitting coach in October of 2005 and helped the team become on of the most productive in baseball. But the last two seasons have been a struggle for the franchise, as they have finished last in the American League Central Division the past two years.

The Twins also fired bullpen coach Rick Stelmaszek and third base coach Steve Liddle.
