LOCAL SCORES for Monday, April 21st, 2008

The UW-Eau Claire women's softball team remained in first place in the WIAC after the Blugolds swept a doubleheader in Platteville Sunday afternoon.

The Minnesota Twins raised their record to 9-and-10 with a 2-1 10-inning victory over Cleveland Sunday afternoon at the Metrodome.

The Milwaukee Brewers were poised to sweep the Cincinnati Reds Sunday afternoon taking a 3-1 lead to the bottom of the 10th inning, but Brewers closer Eric Gagne looking for his fourth save in as many days, allows three runs as the Reds avoid the sweep.

The Cardinal team defeated the White team, 28-3 Saturday in front of approximately 22,000 fans at Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin’s annual Spring Football Game. Running back Lance Smith, who played for both the Cardinal and White teams, rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Bill Hall hit a two-out, two-run double in the 10th inning Saturday that kept the Milwaukee Brewers perfect in extra innings, setting up a 5-3 victory over a slumping Cincinnati Reds team that can't figure out what to do with him.

Justin Morneau hit a two-run homer for the power-poor Minnesota Twins, and Blackburn made it stand up with 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Indians on Saturday.

After 23 years as head coach at Eleva-Strum, Rich Roginski is stepping down at the end of the school year. Roginski led the Cardinals to the 2008 WIAA Division 4 state championship this past season.

UW-Eau Claire freshman pitcher Jenny Ross tossed the first perfect game in Blugolds softball history on Tuesday afternoon, beating UW-Oshkosh 3-zip.

UW-Eau Claire football coach Todd Glaser announced a portion of his 2008 recruiting class on Tuesday. A recruiting list that includes some of the finest student-athletes from the Wisconsin and Minnesota area.

The Green Bay Packers announced their 2008 pre-season and regular season schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The schedule includes three Monday night games and one Sunday night game on NBC against the Dallas Cowboys on September 21st.
