CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. -- At last night's division one regional track and field meet in Rice Lake, Chippewa Falls senior, Cooper Barth qualified for his fourth straight secional competition by dominating the 800 meter run. His outstanding achievement has earned him the title of this week's, Gordy's Athlete of the Week. Sportscene 13's Chance Dickman has more.
Running, running, and more running. That's the life of Chippewa Falls senior Cooper Barth, and to him, nothing is more meaningful than doing it in a Chi Hi uniform.
Cooper says, "I know that I'm representing the town and my school, and it just feels good to be able to come out on top wearing that Chippewa uniform."
And Cooper has come out on top quite a bit, becoming not just one of the best 800 meter runners in the area but the state as well.
"I just want to be the best I can be and that's what keeps me going. I'm not going to stop until I can hit my potential," says Barth.
And his goal this year, is to make his third trip to the State Track and Field Meet in La Crosse.
Says Cooper, "I'm really excited to hopefully make it down to state and improve my time running with some other really good competition."
State, however, won't be the last time he races the best of the best as far as competition is concerned, as Cooper plans to trade in his Chi Hi red and white, for the red and white of the Wisconsin Badgers next year.
Barth says, "I was looking around, and I didn't think that I could run at Madison, and then when we contacted them and the coaches said, yeah we'd like to have you come down and visit. Then I knew right when I was down there that this is the place for me so, hands down one of the coolest experiences I've ever had."
Cooper is excited to be able to continue his running career in the state that he loves. Reporting in Chippewa Falls, Chance Dickman, for SportScene 13.
