ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Defending Div. 5 State Champion Stanley-Boyd Orioles

STANLEY-BOYD, Wis. -- Last year was unforgettable for the Orioles as they capped off an undefeated season with a State Championship, but as rewarding as that was for the program, they're looking forward to putting it all on the line this season.

Senior Ronnie Ponick says, "2013 is in the past. It's all about the 2014 season with the new, fresh set of guys that we've got. I think we're just hoping to make another good run."

"2013 was last year's season," says Senior Clint Warminski. "We're really not worried about that. All we can worry about is this week, this practice, and get as many reps in as we can so we can be intense and focused."

"Our goal every year is to just compete at the highest level that we have the talent and ability to do that with," adds head coach Jeff Koenig. "If we can compete for the conference title, compete at the state level, that's always an ultimate goal. We're going to go as far as our team can take us, and as hard as they want to work for it, that's how far we'll go."

And as always, they'll have to get through a tough Cloverbelt Conference, in order to make another run at a state title.

Says senior Austin Burzynski, "You have to keep your mind on the team that's up. You don't look ahead to week three or four. It's always who you play this week and how are you going to defend them, and how are you going to play offense against them."

Coach Koenig adds, "You've got to understand that our conference is a competitive league and every year it seems like we've got a team down at Camp Randall playing in the finals. If we can survive the conference season, then what happens in the playoffs happens. We have a tough season to go through."

And it all starts week one for Stanley-Boyd, as they host conference rival Eau Claire Regis.
