Eau Claire Immanuel's senior Abbie Hein will become the first female Lancer in school history to sign with a division 1 school. Hein has verbally committed to play basketball in the American East Conference at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
The 5'9 guard was the All-Northwest Player of the Year, leading the Lancers to their best season ever. Hein scored her 1000th career point as a junior and finished up with 1673 total points, 737 rebounds, 281 assists, and 365 steals in her four years at Immanuel. Hein says she is excited for the opportunities that come with being a Retriever.
"I really like them athletically. Just with the coaches and style of play. It's pretty similar to Immanuel, which I think is pretty cool and then the academics are really, really good. They're an honors university and their team is ranked third, I think, nationwide," says Hein.
"I haven't even reached my full potential yet, and it will be fun to see, to improve and to just keep playing with people who are playing Division 1 basketball. So it will be really cool," adds Hein.
