Defense helps Brillion win first WIAA boys' title over G-E-T

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Brillion had plenty of defense and just enough offense to win its first boys basketball state championship.

Senior guard Trevor Krizenesky scored eight of his team-high 10 points in the fourth quarter as the Lions held off Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 40-35 in the WIAA Division 3 state final Saturday afternoon in Madison.

Krizenesky hit two 3-pointers and a baseline jumper after the Red Hawks (26-2) scored the first five points of the fourth to get within two at 25-23. G-E-T didn't get closer than four the rest of the way.

Senior Ryan Reinke added nine points for Brillion (26-2), which won its final 19 games.

Senior Ryan Bambanek had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Red Hawks. G-E-T shot 23.5 percent (12-for-51) in its lowest-scoring game of the season.
