Eau Claire North baseball adjusting to lack of spring weather

By tomorrows date..April 13th of last year. The Eau Claire North baseball team had already played 5 games. This year they have yet to see the field in a game thanks to mother nature.

When the season does get in full gear. It will be a condensed schedule that will probably feature plenty of double headers.
For area coaches, that schedule will put a lot of stress on their pitching staffs.

"There may be a JV pitcher or two that has to come up and help the Varsity and you know that may be a promotion for a type 2 JV player," says Husky head coach, Bob Johnson. "And it may be a couple of guys that pitched back in Little League or Babe Ruth that you know have to dust off the pitching glove and get back on the mound. So these guys are athletes and we'll make it work."

"Make sure you're completely warmed up and get your long toss in. Keep your arm fresh," says pitcher, Sam Hurt. "Just making sure you're icing and all that stuff because back to back games, if you gotta throw twice in one week, I mean that's pretty tough on an arm so, just make sure you're ready for every game and keep your arm lose and ready."

Today the Eau Claire North baseball team took to the hallways and gymnasium to continue preparations for the day they will actually get to play a game outside.

It has been three weeks since the players first started practicing...and they are chomping at the bit to get on field. Until then, they are trying to make the best of a bad situation.

"We're coming up with some great ways to stay interested. Keeping the guys having fun and stuff. We're all about having fun and competing at the same time so just keep the guys interested and maximizing our reps at every place we can, whether it's in the parking lot or in the gym, just really trying to utilize stuff that we wouldn't necessarily have to at this time of the year."

"You got a message to old man winter or mother nature?"

"Be done! We don't need any more snow days, we don't need any more snow, I think we're good for the year."
