Eau Claire Regis boys and girls basketball preview

The Eau Claire Regis Ramblers are off to a 2-3 start overall but last Saturday they showed the teams potential with a 44-41 win over the then previously unbeaten Colfax.

The team has suffered the side effects of not having some of the players that were on the state runner-up football team early on but they are starting to hit their stride now.

"It's two different sports," says senior Chris Pica-Anderson. "One you get breaks every 6 seconds, basketball is more of a stop and go. So it was a hard transition and I think that we missed 9 practices, so that really hurt us."

"Coming off of a successful football, I think can help us once we get into the basketball mode again," adds senior, Nick Stanke. "I think that success will eventually help us once we get later into the season and deeper into the playoffs.

"I think when teams beat us we had some lapses and so I think as the year goes on for us to be one of the teams to be reckoned with, we have to play a lot better team defense," says coach Bill Uelmen.

The lady Ramblers are are off to a 3-1 start this season, coming off a win over Cadott on Tuesday. They are 2-0 in Cloverbelt play. Expectations are very high for this years team after back to back state tournament appearances. The senior leaders are taking it upon themselves to help mentor the younger players, and want to make another trip to Madison this season.

"We have four upperclassman that came in and basically became leaders overnight," says coach Cody Rumpel. "The loss at state last year kind of left a little bit of a bad taste in all of our mouths. the people that we do have coming back from that team are looking forward to try and make another run this season."

"Ive learned that we have to be senior leaders, on the floor, especially with this new group of freshman on our team," says senior Rachel Liming. "So we have to take control and teach them how to play."

"They all came in ready to learn and they were excited, adds senior Courtney Tuura. "They knew what was at stake and they knew the legacy we had the past couple of years."
