Heather Bowe Named A.P. Player of the Year

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Although it ultimately didn't lead to another state title, Eau Claire Regis' Heather Bowe had one of the biggest moments of last week's state tournament.

The senior forward hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer in a Division 4 semifinal game against Oshkosh Lourdes, sending the game into overtime. Regis lost the game, missing out on a chance to repeat last year's title. But Bowe still had a standout season, earning recognition as the 2012 Associated Press Wisconsin girls' basketball player of the year from a statewide panel of media members.

The Regis senior averaged 22 points a game and will attend Vanderbilt in the fall.

Kelly McNiff claimed coach of the year honors after leading De Pere to the Division 1 championship.

I was at the game in Osseo when she played Ladysmith. and all though they beat Ladysmith it was fun to watch her play as she gave it her all!Good job and good luck in the future!

Good for Heather! And good luck at Vandy! It still confounds me as to why Badgers coach Bobbie Kelsey rescinded Bowe's scholarship offer. Just because Bowe didn't quite match the style Kelsey wanted to play? Don't good coaches adjust to maximize the talent that they have? And having the Wisconsin AP player of the year would have been awesome for Bucky, in addition to her being a Wisconsin native. News stations around here would have had a big reason to cover UW womens hoops.

Hard to understand how the new UW womens coach would throw her under the bus the way she did. Anybody ever get an explaination? Sad!

I wonder if the UW womens coach regrets her poor decision. The reason(s) I heard were that she runs a different offense and she really just wanted nothing to do with the previous coach's decisions. But congratulations Heather!!!
