The WIAA boys basketball sectionals will take place Thursday night around the state, in Division 5, a great match-up between Cloverbelt East and West champs, Augusta and Chippewa Falls McDonell. After beating the Macks back on February 25th, the Beavers are full of confidence as they look toward the rematch.
Matthew Grunewald/Beavers Senior Guard:
"We feel like we got good chemistry going right now, we feel like we can play with anybody, shooting the ball good, playing good defense, we feel like we're hard to stop."
Paul Henrichs/Beavers Head Coach:
"We need to play defense, and that's been our goal all year long, that we gotta find ways to get stops on defense and with Chippewa Falls McDonell, they got a lot of weapons, similar to our team, and gotta stop their inside presence."
It's been less than two weeks since the last time the Beavers and Macks met in the Cloverbelt Crossover championship game, McDonell coach Archie Sherbinow says both teams will dissect that game tape to try and find an advantage.
Archie Sherbinow/Macks Head Coach:
"I think in teamwork and leadership skills we've improved quite a bit, you see that with other teams, Augusta, they've played together, 3, 4 years, the improvement and a lot of things this time of the year, you can throw them out the window during tournament time, because you're going to get everybody's best game."
Kyle Cody/Macks Senior Center:
"They can hit three's like no other if you're not on them, have to make sure we're out there playing lock down defense. On offense, trying to get it in the post more."
Ryan Baier/Macks Senior Guard:
"Most of us have been in this situation before, football or baseball, so we know the type of pressure we'll have. It's just an amazing experience, we're looking forward to it, practice up, have fun with it, hopefully come out with a "W" and have fun with it."
