McDonell and Colfax Headed to State; Clayton Falls to Drummond

The McDonell Macks will make their first ever WIAA state boy's basketball tournament appearance after beating Benton 72-64 on Saturday. While Colfax returns to Madison for the 1st time since 1978 with a 55-41 in over Boyceville.

For McDonell, the victory improves them to 25-3 on the season. They will take on Sheboygan Lutheran in the Division 5 state semifinals on Thursday at 1:35 at the Kohl Center.

Colfax improves to 23-2 on the season. The will face state powerhouse Dominican in the state semifinals Thursday night at 8:15.

In Division 5, Clayton's bid for a third straight trip to state fell short as they lost to Drummond 36-34 in the sectional final held at Spooner. Drummond will make their first state appearance since 1997.

    Trivia: Two of the starters for Colfax have fathers who played on the championship team in 1978. Mike Kiekhaefer and Bob Fehr.

    Besides the Drummond being at the state tourney in 1997, exactly 50 years ago they defeated Park Falls in Spooner to get to state in 1962.
