2012 National Letter Of Intent Signing Day
Six members of the Menomonie High School 2011 Big Rivers Conference champion and State Semi-Finalist football team will sign a National Letter of Intent to play Div II college Football on Wed Feb 1st.
Neico Stokke the State offensive State player of the year & Leader Telegram Northwest player of the year will sign with Minnesota State University. Stokke broke nearly every Menomonie high school passing record. This past season he threw for record setting 2,404 yards, & rushed for 703 yards for over 3,000 all purpose yards. He also threw 23 TD’s and rushed for seven for a total of 30 TD’s. Stokke received a full tuition scholarship from Minnesota State located in Mankato MN. Minnesota State is a Div. II school that plays in the Southern Division of the Northern Sun Conference. The 2011 Mavericks were Conference champions of the Southern Division and finished the year
8-3 overall. Menomonie alumnus J.R. Buckley was an All American LB during his time at Minnesota State.
Stokke was a WFCA First team All-State selection & an AP 2nd team All-State selection along with being selected first team All-BRC and First team All-Region. Stokke is a three sport athlete that also participates in baseball and basketball.
Stokke carries a 3.75 GPA, a member of the National Honor Society and is a huddle leader for the Menomonie FCA. Stokke plans on majoring in Nursing
Lex Pelke- will sign a scholarship to Minnesota Duluth where he will be given a chance to Punt right away next year as a true freshman. Pelke a 2nd team All State punter and first team All Northwest selection had 43.4 while also placing five punts inside the five yard line. Pelke was also a two time All BRC selection as a punter and was also a first team All-BRC & First team All-Region selection at receiver. Pelke had 44 receptions in 2011 for 832 yards and average an amazing 20.1 yards per catch, while catching six TD’s Pelke is a 3.4 student, and is a three sport athlete who also competes in Baseball and Basketball
Duluth was the conference Champion of the Northern Sun Conference –Northern Division and was knocked out of the National Play-Offs in the quarterfinals by eventual National Champion Wayne State.
Duluth has won the NCAA Div II National Championship twice in the last four years.
Pelke will be joining MHS Alumni Kenny Chowa who starts at defensive back for the Bulldogs.
Former Menomonie players have experienced a lot of success at Duluth through the years. Trevor Thelke-QB, Dan Weisser-TE, Mark Slinden-RB, Brandon Wood, and Nate Bauer all head successful careers playing at UMD.
Drew Otto & Conner Hanson- will sign scholarships with Michigan Tech. University.
Otto was the BRC Offensive player of the year & Leader Telegram First team All Northwest section had a 2011 total of 1,439 yds rushing and had thirty two receptions for 452 yards and was also a dangerous return man and amassed a total of 2,489 all purpose yards while scoring 28 TD’s. He also played corner and had 6 Int’s and was a very sure tackler. He was a two time All- BRC selection and was selected both ways his senior year. This past season he was an Honorable Mention All-state selection at running back. He was also a First team All State Hockey player as a Junior. Drew is a three sport athlete participating in Baseball and Hockey as well as Football. He carries a 3.75 GPA, National Honor society member, and plans to major in Bio- Medical engineering –Michigan Tech is rated as one of the top Universities in the country for Bio Medical Engineering.
Hanson – was a first team All- state selection at Defensive End in both the AP & the Coaches association. A very strong Defensive End Hanson dominated the line of scrimmage with his quickness recording 13 tackles for loss this past season. He was also a tremendous pass rusher. The 6’1” 255pound Hanson is expected to move to Nose Guard for the Huskies. Hanson was a first team All- BRC , All Northwest and All Region selection. Hanson has a 3.6 GPA, and participates in three sports Wrestling and Golf as well as football, and plans to major in Buisness
Michigan Tech is located in Houghton Michigan and plays in the Great Lakes Athletic Conference and finished 7-3 this past season. Former Menomonie players that had successful careers at Michigan tech were Ben Wickstrom and Brent Pember who were both captains during their careers with the Huskies.
Andrew Kryshak- a two time All conference Nose Guard will be headed to Bemidji State University. Kryshak –the strongest player ever to play at Menomonie will be moving to Offense as he is being recruited to play FB. The 245 pound Nose Guard had five sacks and nine tackles for losses and was a dominating interior player for the last two seasons. Kryshak also recovered two fumbles, intercepted a pass and scored a key defensive TD in a level II play-off game ripping the ball away from the Marshfield QB and rumbling down the sideline to score. He has a 3.2 GPA, and also participates in Track, Andrew plans to major in Sociology.
BSU is a member of the Northern Sun Conference-Northern Division. BSU finished 2nd last year losing to Duluth 26-23.
Luke Thompson- a two year starter at Center will be headed to Upper Iowa University. He was recruited as an Offensive Lineman. The 265 pound Thompson had a tremendous senior year at center and along with being a dominate blocker was also very good at the Gun snap. Thompson is originally from Iowa. Upper Iowa is a member of the Northern Sun –Southern Division and is located in Fayette, Iowa.
