MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senior McKenzie Trunkle scored 15 points, including a key 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, as Neillsville held off Oshkosh Lourdes, 52-42, to win the WIAA Division 4 state title Saturday.
Neillsville (28-0) led the entire fourth quarter and won its first state title by responding to every big shot Oshkosh Lourdes hit. Three times Lourdes (26-2) cut the Warriors' lead to three points or fewer, only to see Neillsville convert at the other end to blunt the momentum.
The biggest blow came when the Lady Knights cut the lead to 45-42 with 2:21 left but couldn't stop Trunkle's 3-pointer from the elbow. Trunkle's shot led to a 7-0 run to close the game.
Senior Lexy Petermann scored 15 points for Oshkosh Lourdes, which was making its first state tournament appearance.
